Novak Djokovic tied Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with his 20th Grand Slam on Sunday, and returned to beat Matteo Berrettini 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 at Wimbledon.
Djokovic who finished at number 1 won the third consecutive competition at All England Club and sixth.
He added that in nine titles at the Australian Open, three at the US Open and two at the French Open to match his two players in the major leagues that he has won with another man in tennis history.
“I have to pay a lot of respect to Rafa and Roger. Myth. Legends of our game. They are the most important players I have ever met in my career, “said Djokovic, 34, of Serbia.
“They, I think, are the reason I am where I am today. It also helps me to understand what I need to do to become stronger, healthier, smarter. ”
Federer sent his thanks as soon as he finished the game, and wrote, “Well done, well done!”
Djokovic is now the only man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win his first three major games of the season. They can host the Grand Slam of the calendar year – one of the last of human accomplishments when Laver performed 52 years ago – at the US Open, which kicks off on August 30th.
“I hope. “I’m fine and I’m playing well and playing my best tennis at Grand Slams is the most important thing I have right now in my career. So let’s work hard.”
This was his last big 30 – men’s, Federer’s only one to play, 31 – and Berrettini’s 25-year-old Italian, who finished seventh.
“Hopefully,” Berrettini said, “you won’t be my last.”
Great game day
It was a big game day in London for the Italians: Their national football team met England at Wembley Stadium in the final of the European Championship night.
With Marija Cicak taking the lead, the first female chair to be the last male in a race that began in 1877, the game began when the sun appeared less than two weeks, the sky appeared in the middle of the clouds.
The opening game had scores of both, but especially Djokovic, whose two errors contributed to ten combined errors that did not occur, compared to those who won zero. He had a break but he strengthened himself and settled down there and, as is the case with all teams, it was Djokovic who led the way in Berrettini’s quick finish.
Berrettini came up with 101 acres for the race and that’s where his game was built: free points on service and the first shot that earned him the nickname “Hammer”.
The strongest whips sent judges to cut off their heads. Djokovic sometimes disguised himself, kneeling and lifting his wallet as if it were a protective shield on the back of his body.
Most rivals were able to bounce back to 137 mph and finish the win, but Djokovic did this twice. And with the huge hit that Berrettini of 6-foot-5, the goalkeeper can drive past many other players back in Djokovic’s bag.

That’s what Djokovic does: He just forces the opponents to work hard to win every point, no longer a game, a set, a game.
In fact, this could have ended sooner than the four sets and about 3 1/2 hours had passed: Djokovic led 4-1 in the first half, 4-0 in the second and 3-1 in the third. But first, in particular, they got distracted in ways they don’t usually do, with a 5-2 loss and a break when they served 5-3.
In the next ship, they were tied at 3-all, but Berrettini won three of the following four points, closing with 138 mph.
He went quickly and changed and most of the nearly 15,000 spectators set out to celebrate with him.
“Ma-tte-o!” depends on the beginning of the third set. Soon, some responded by giving him the nickname Djokovic, “No-le!” Afterwards, Djokovic grabbed his ear and asked for help.
But Djokovic is nothing if he is not a warrior, and he thwarted Berrettini’s efforts to win back the fans. After this, Djokovic fell on his back, arms and legs thrown, and was washed by fans.
Magical times
There were some magical moments, points that were beautiful with both of them.
Together, Berrettini somehow found a pen in the back, a mid-leg so that Djokovic would somehow be followed to answer the answer behind him in court, but it ended up in the net.
In the other, which took 15 whips, Djokovic entered the defense and, after Berrettini responded with a shot, ran for the win. Djokovic raised his finger as if reminding everyone, “I’m number 1!” – and Berrettini tossed his bag to the end, grabbed it and smiled.
What would they do?
There’s not much anyone can do against Djokovic, it seems.
He has collected eight major trophies in the last 12 years – all from the age of 30, mostly by a man of this age.
And of all the questions in recent years on whether the younger generation can progress and hinder the progress of the three Adults, Djokovic is taking part in the children.
In three groups this year, they are 21-0. In the end, he hit three-somethings mentioned in the top 10 of the ATP: 25-year-old Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open courts, 22-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas in the French Open and now Berrettini on the grass.

“He’s writing the history of the game,” Berrettini said, “so he deserves all the respect.”
On Sunday, Djokovic made only 21 errors, while scoring 21 winners. He reduced Berrettini to 16 acres.
Djokovic’s return is as good as anyone else’s. His two-handed backhand is dangerous. His ability to anticipate a shot from the other side of the net and follow them up offends opponents. The last wizard, he can play on the net: Djokovic won 34 of 48 when he went on Sunday, plus 7 of 9 when he served-by-volley.
Of all these, however, perhaps the thing that sets him apart most is the good numbers that he cannot follow.
When times are crucial, stress and heartbeat recur. The mind and body can close. It’s just human nature. Djokovic somehow cannot be swayed by such a thing. Or they play as if they were.
Probably a factor as to why they’re doing so poorly. Maybe with all that he gets.
Maybe it’s the coveted combination of grit and guts – to go along with all its admirable talent and hard work.
Let’s not forget that Djokovic faced two matches against Federer at the end of 2019 at Wimbledon. Or that he followed two points in two games at the French Open before returning to win five, plus a final.
So far, it has been a year dominated by Djokovic, on top of a decade of success.
“The last 10 years have been a tremendous journey,” he says, “and we are not just waiting here.”
