U.S. officials fear Trump wants to overthrow government: Book | Donald Trump’s story

The last days of Donald Trump’s presidency were a major overhaul of the US military as Trump and his allies sought to secure a seat after losing the 2020 election, according to an upcoming book.

General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, described the “stomach ache” in which President Trump has repeatedly claimed victory in the 2020 election and Milley likened Trump’s actions to Adolf Hitler’s entry into Nazi Germany.

“This is the time of the Reichstag,” Milley told his aides, according to the book two Washington Post reporters. “The Good News of a Savior.”

In 1933 the German parliament Reichstag burned down and offered Hitler a bribe to overthrow his dictatorship.

The book “I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J Trump’s Last Year” by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker is based on questions from interviews with more than 140 people, including Trump officials, according to the Washington Post.

The authors describe a number of incidents involving General Milley, who became increasingly concerned about Trump’s defeat in the November election, which Joe Biden had won by a score of 306 to 232 at the US Electoral College.

Milley told people he feared the American brand of “brownshirts on the streets” after attending a briefing on “Trump’s million-dollar campaign” planned by Trump. The Brownshirts were politicians, military personnel who used violence and threats to support Hitler’s regime.

That same evening, according to a Washington Post report by the book, an old colleague named Milley warned him that people close to Trump were trying to “overthrow the government”.

“What f- am I fighting for?” Milley replied.

The events of January 6, when Trump’s supporters took over the US Capitol are still American politics while Trump continues to control Republican and party voters. Democrats at the US House have formed a special committee to investigate the January 6 attack. The committee is due to hold its first meeting next week.

Trump, who still claims the 2020 election was rigged, on Thursday released a statement saying he had “lost respect for Milley” and “did not threaten or speak to anyone about the conspiracy”.

“None of my administration Milley has shown what he is showing here,” Trump said.

In the last days of the presidency, Trump wants to establish permanent positions in the FBI, CIA and Defense department.

Milley took the information seriously and quietly started with other Pentagon leaders on how to prevent any attempt by Trump to use the military.

“He can try, but he can’t do well,” Milley told his assistants, according to the book.

Congress members and other Trump officials were also concerned about Trump’s attempts to use the military to stay in power. Milley encouraged him again.

“Everything will be fine,” advised Milley, according to the book.

“We are exchanging power peacefully. We board the plane safely. This is America. It’s powerful. Organizations are coming in, but they are not breaking. ”

Milley met White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in December at an American football alliance with Trump.

“What’s going on here? What are you guys doing? Milley asked Meadows.

A former Republican congressman who joined the Trump White House in March 2020, Meadows was more political than his White House counterpart, John Kelly, a former veteran.

“Don’t worry about it,” Meadows gave Milley, according to the book.

“Be careful,” Milley warned Meadows, who was a Trump activist at the time when he was being slandered by Parliament.

The failure of security led to a breach of Capitol

Prior to January 6 Disruption Trump’s supporters at the US Capitol – when thousands of people disrupted Congress and disrupted the Electoral College’s bid to secure Biden’s victory – National Guard soldiers were called in to defend the Capitol.

At a meeting of the military and law enforcement officials to prepare for Biden’s security opening on January 20Milley told the group: “If we put metal around the city, the Nazis will not come in.”
