Tropical Storm Elsa erupted in Hurricane 1 on Tuesday, just hours before the expected collapse north of the Gulf Coast in Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center in the United States.
The center of Elsa was about 100 miles (165km) southwest of Tampa, Florida, and was moving north at about nine miles per hour (15km / h), with strong winds of 75mph (120km / h), says NHC in 8pm (00:00 GMT Wednesday) consultation.
In addition to destructive winds and heavy rains, the NHC based in Miami warned of the dangers of hurricanes, floods and hurricanes. A hurricane warning has been issued on the long coastline, from Egmont Key, Tampa Bay province, to the Steinhatchee River 180 km (290km) north around the Gulf Coast, and Elsa is due to fall Wednesday morning.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the storm is expected to come ashore between 8am and 9am (12:00 and 13:00 GMT) around the Tampa Bay area.
Now is not the time to “enjoy” because “we have dangers out there,” DeSantis said Tuesday, warning that the area would be devastated by the storm overnight.

Across Tampa Bay, home to an estimated 3.5 million people, events, government offices and schools were closed early Tuesday before the storm hit. Tampa International Airport was closed at 5pm (21:00 GMT) due to strong storm potential.
Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez called on state citizens to begin preparing for the storm, including the possibility of a power outage and urging people to save enough food and water.
“If you are asked to move, please come out,” he said, reminding people that there was an emergency room ready to accommodate them.
After the fall, the storm is expected to move northeast of the southeastern U.S. Thursday, falling in the middle of rainfall two to ten inches across the Florida Peninsula.
The storm is threatening to disrupt search and rescue operations at the site of a collapsed building in Surfside, near Miami, where workers have been sweeping the rubble for 12 days in the hope of finding survivors. As of Tuesday, 36 people had been confirmed dead and 109 were still missing, said Miella-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

In the far south, the Cuban people took a break while Elsa seemed to be with them introduced slight damage, while also helping to rehabilitate water storage facilities.
The capital Havana woke up after a heavy downpour at night but no flooding or damage on Tuesday. Cubans have taken to the streets after warning of a hurricane, despite heavy rains in some parts of the country.
“It’s good that Elsa didn’t cause much damage because we have a big problem here with the coronavirus and now the storms,” said Susana Perez, 68, a retired teacher, standing in line to buy fuel amidst Cuba shortages.
Last week, Elsa, who briefly weather the first hurricane of the season, launched at least three deaths and the destruction of infrastructure and agriculture on the Caribbean islands of eastern Cuba.
Preliminary damage figures were more than $ 12m in St Lucia and $ 5.3m in Jamaica, according to government officials.
Elsa’s arrival marked the first day that the fifth hurricane – which had not arrived before August – hit the entire region.
