ACLU and 70 other organizations are asking DHS to stop using Clearview AI

More than 70 groups are urging the Department of Homeland Security to stop using them Recognized AI information for clearview AI. The letter points to the latest BuzzFeed news reports which found employees in 1,803 states, including police offices and public schools, have been using the program without many of their employers knowing about it. The company has offered free trials to individuals in these organizations hoping to encourage their organization to register. In addition to the lack of supervision, the letter points to such things as racism in face recognition software and Clearview set up its own library by listing websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. It is another factor that has caused some legal problems with these companies.

“We urge Biden ‘s management to refrain from making any agreement with Clearview AI, and that anything that may be used here or in the future on the platform and government agencies should be suspended immediately, regardless of the partnership with the company,” the agreement stated in the letter. “Continued violations of the rights and privacy rights of Clearview AI provide compelling reasons to stop using them.”
