President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the discovery of new gas in the Black Sea, which Turkey plans to launch in 2023.
State power company Tpao acquired 135 billion cubic meters from the Amasra-1 coastal well, bringing in total revenue from last year to 540 billion cubic meters, Erdogan said in a statement on the Black Sea coast in the city of Zonguldak.
There is no independent assessment of the total and potential emissions of Sakarya sites provided by the government. Officials said Tpao is planning to make its own living quarters, and will not need foreign investment.
Turkey has begun exploring oil and gas in its vicinity in recent years. Erdogan has based his recent findings on power as a response to other economic crises in Turkey, in addition to his foreign exchange earnings.
Turkish explorers last year found 405 billion cubic meters of gas at a nearby Tuna-1 well in the Sakarya field, the largest object found in the Black Sea.
Turkey exports about 50 billion cubic meters of oil annually. Officials expect domestic production to increase the country’s gas volume by 60%, to 80 billion cubic meters a year by 2030.
The release is also expected by Turkey to import cheaper oil and reduce its annual revenue by about $ 44 billion.
