Syrian offensive kills more than 100 people, clashes continue | ISIL / ISIS issues

The ISIL attack on Hasakeh has been the worst since the military lost its territory in 2019.

At least 120 people have been killed in US conflicts with US support, Kurdish-led troops and ISIL (ISIS) troops attacked a Syrian prison.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in the UK stated that “at least 77 IS members and 39 Kurdish soldiers, including insurgents, prison guards and terrorist groups have been killed” in the attack that began on Thursday.

The violence is the latest in a series of deadly killings in prisons for alleged ISIL members who were detained after being ousted by US aid in northern and eastern Syria.

It was not known how many prisoners were in the prison, which is the largest center for the SDF in the thousands. Human Rights Watch estimates that the SDF has some 12,000 men and boys suspected of being ISIL, plus 2,000 to 4,000 from about 50 countries.

The war has forced civilians to evacuate areas around Ghwayran and families fleeing the cold winter when Kurdish forces closed.

“Thousands have left their homes near prisons, and have fled to neighboring areas where their relatives live,” Sheikhmous Ahmed, an official in the Kurdish autonomous region, told AFP.

Releasing comrades

ISIL took action attack like terrorists since losing its last division in Syria in 2019.
