These ruling judges are successful but fail to have a majority while voters turn to smaller parties.
The right-wing ELAM party and the centrist splint party have made a significant contribution to the Cyprus parliamentary election with a large audience that seems to have turned three parties in the middle of a frustrating voter turnout.
With 100% of the votes counted, ELAM on Sunday garnered 6.78% of the vote – a 3% increase from the previous election in 2016 – eliminating the EDEK party in the shortest of nearly 200 votes.
Centrist DIPA – made up of key members of DIKO’s right-wing third party – received 6.1% of the vote.
Dis-middle right came in first place with 27.77% of the vote, 5.4% higher in second place, AKEL based on communism.
But the parties lost 2.9% and 3.3% of their support in the last election.
“The results are not what we expected,” AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou told a party meeting. “We respect it and think carefully to find an answer, but now we can say that we have failed to prove it (our agents).”
‘The biggest failure’
Researcher Christoforos Christoforou said the results show “significant failure” for DISY and AKEL to recruit more sponsors by assuring them of the value of their principles.
A final petition led by the DISY leadership reduced the 5% reduction in voters to 3 percent.
Christoforou says the success of ELAM is his way of combating migration and the evils of the country and the DIPA whose top positions are linked to political institutions such as former ministers and legislators.
He further added that the 3.6% increase in election results meant that 15,000 voters voting for undefeated parties were left without a seat in parliament.
Votes in recent weeks have voted that DISY and AKEL will shed blood if frustrated voters seek alternatives between minority parties.
These elections will not affect the functioning of the government in a divided Mediterranean country, as control will be in the hands of the president, who is elected independently.
About 65.73% of the approximately 558,000 voters voted for 56 seats in the Greek Cypriot legislature. Voters were less than 1% compared to previous polls.
