Iran has unveiled an Islamic petition for lovers whose goal is to support the “permanent and wise marriage” of its youth.
Named Hamdam – Farsi’s “partner” – the service allows users to “search and choose a partner”, state TV said Monday.
It is the only government-approved platform in the Islamic Republic, according to Iran’s police chief, Colonel Ali Mohammad Rajabi.
Although dating programs are popular in Iran, Rajabi says any platforms other than Hamdam are illegal.
Produced by the Tebyan Cultural Institute, which is part of Iran’s Islamic Propaganda Organization, the Hamdam page says it uses “artificial intelligence” to find matches “only for those who are learning to get married”.
‘The Devil’s Goal’
Tebyan leader Komeil Khojasteh, speaking at the unveiling ceremony, said family trials were threatened by foreign groups.
“The family is the target of the devil, and [Iran’s enemies] wants to focus their attention on this, he said, adding that the program helps to create “healthy” families.
According to Hamdam’s page, users need to verify who they are and pass the “psychology tests” before they arrive.
After the game was created, the program “introduces families together with the availability of support counselors”, who have “accompanied” the couple for four years after marriage.
Registration is free as Hamdam has an “independent approach”, the website said without comment.
Reduce the birth rate
Iranian officials, including Prime Minister Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have warned several times against the country’s rising marriage and falling prices.
In March, Iran’s ruling parliament passed a law called “population growth and support for families”.
It mandates the government to provide more encouragement on marriage and to encourage people to have more than two children, while prohibiting the possibility of abortion.
The bill is awaiting approval by the Guardian Council, which is responsible for monitoring whether the loans are in line with Islamic law and law.
