“I think Indonesia can still apply strict health laws to prevent the spread of the disease or to spread the disease without sending them back to sea,” he added.

UNHCR has asked Jakarta to people who were on board down, and showed that the ship was not right.

Badruddin Yunus, leader of the local fishing group, told AFP that the fishermen who inspected the boat reported that there were 120 people, including 51 children and 60 women.

He said the engine was broken and the refugees were unable to communicate with local fishermen for the problem of language.

Last year, hundreds of Rohingya who fled persecution in Myanmar where many Buddhists arrived in Indonesia.

Many have fled to Malaysia, prompted by more than 100,000 Rohingya people.
