Indian naval forces recover 22 bodies from shipwrecked by Hurricane Tauktae | Coronavirus News Plague
Indian ships have rescued 22 bodies of people aboard a boat that sank in Mumbai when a typhoon hit the shore this week, officials said.
The search continues for another 55 people missing, navy spokesman Mehul Karnik said Wednesday.
He said three ships and helicopters involved in the search had rescued 184 people from rough seas and waves up to 7 meters (25 feet).
Typhoon Tauktae, the strongest hurricane that has hit the area for more than two decades, filled with strong winds of up to 210km (130 miles) an hour when it reached the coast of Gujarat state on Monday. The storm has left more than 50 people dead in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The weather has been good and the search for missing people has intensified, Alok Anand’s army chief said.
A survivor told NDTV’s story that he jumped into the sea with a life jacket and was later taken away by the navy.
In another operation, a military helicopter rescued 35 crew members, a GAL Constructor, who had approached north of Mumbai, according to the government.
Both bills were operated by Oil and Natural Gas Corp, India’s largest oil and natural gas company.
The company said the barge had picked up people who had been sent to drill on the shore and their anchors had given the storm time. India’s largest marine mills are located in Mumbai.
A Hindu newspaper reported that more than 16,000 homes had been damaged by a typhoon in Gujarat, the home of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who on Wednesday conducted a ground survey of the areas affected by the storm.

The storm has caused problems for Indian officials as they struggle to cope with the rising tide of sexually transmitted infections and deaths and the lack of beds and air in hospitals.
In Gujarat, among the worst-affected countries by the second coronavirus, the storm has torn apart lightning towers, damaged at least 16,500 homes and closed more than 600 roads, officials say.
The state farm area must also have caused problems, including a large Saurashtra mango belt.
Officials said restoration work and clean roads were underway, but parts were still being cut.
“Mobile phones are still in many places, and I don’t think they will be restored today (Wednesday),” Aayush Oak, a senior member of the Amreli district in Gujarat, told Reuters news agency.
The hurricane has weakened to the point where the devastation that occurs in the southern state of Rajasthan and the surrounding areas of Gujarat, India’s climate department on Wednesday.
In neighboring Nepal, local authorities are urging mountain climbers to disembark because of severe storms.
Hundreds of hikers, hikers and workers are trying to climb various mountains in Nepal this month, as the weather is ideal for hiking. Nepal has eight of the highest 14 peaks in the world, including Mount Everest.
The Nepal Department of Management on Tuesday urged riders and clothing agencies to monitor the weather and be safe.
