Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus was sent off after beating Chile’s Eugenio Mena with a kick in the 48th minute of the Copa America quarter-final at the Estadio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
The Brazilian defenders advanced to the semi-finals with a 1-0 win after defender Lucas Paqueta scored the only goal of the match.

Neymar and the Brazilian coach Tite said after the game that Jesus did not see Mena and accidentally hit him as he tried to find a place to play again.
“Good defense is our style,” said Thiago Silva of Brazil. “Regardless of what we did today we have conceded a few goals. From time to time we made it a point to be seen. I am very proud of the team, for fighting the war.”
Paqueta replaced Roberto Firmino after the first half with fewer chances.
Tired Neymar said after the game that playing with 10 men was a big test in Brazil.
“Every match we need a test to strengthen us, to show that we can do anything,” Neymar said. “We had to stand together. It was very difficult to do so. ”
Chilean Arturo Vidal said his team would leave the tournament with pride.

Peru advanced to the semifinals after beating Paraguay 4-3 on penalties after making it 3-3 in all time.
Brazil and Peru played in the last Copa America in 2019, when the readers won 3-1. Jesus was also sent for the game at Rio’s Maracana Stadium.
