Chilean President encourages open discussion by drafting new legislation | Political News

Sebastian Pinera’s ruling coalition was severely disrupted last month in electing representatives to draft the Constitution.

The outgoing president of Chile has urged 155 candidates to be nominated the new law for the South American state to abandon “marginalized politics”, to hold free negotiations and to implement agreements.

In his annual State of the Nation address on Tuesday, right-wing President Sebastian Pinera said he had called for the new organization “in the coming days”.

He further added that the hope of the Constitutional Convention “will be a strong respect for the limits and laws” of its activities and the protection of the rights, privileges and freedoms of all Chilean citizens.

“Unity can only be achieved if we are willing to communicate and listen to each other and leave the politics of competition so that history can be remembered (meeting) as the ones who made strong agreements and a better future for Chile,” he said.

Last month, Chileans were given a job to choose representatives of the current constitution, written in the 1980s during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

Representatives – who numbered among the more than 1,300 – will have nine months to sign a new document. It will then be presented to the general public.

“I want to participate as much as I can in shaping the future of our country,” said 83-year-old Voter Monica Manriquez. told Al Jazeera from a resort in Santiago on May 16. “Elections are a clear reflection of the future of the nation.”

When Pinera’s ruling coalition in Chile Vamos promised to win at least three of the seats in the Constitutional Convention, it came as a shock to the polls.

Most of the seats go to those who want to become independent, including many from the outgoing groups 2019 demonstrations as opposed to contrast.

In his remarks, Pinera said that while he respects the independence of the body, he expects to see water and property rights protected, including the right to health, education, housing, employment, and economic policies.

Also on Tuesday, Pinera announced plans to launch a homosexual marriage fund that has been suspended in the old world of self-control for years.

“I think the time for a similar marriage has come to our country,” he said.

“All human beings, regardless of their sexual orientation, should be able to live, love and create a family with all the security and dignity that they can and should deserve.”

The popularity of his government has plummeted amidst coronavirus poverty and unemployment, as well as for trying to prevent citizens from taking their pensions.

The country has reported more than 29,300 deaths of COVID-19 and more than 1.3 million cases so far, according to a study by the University of Johns Hopkins.
