Five of the 10 countries where women and girls are most abused are in Africa. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 32 percent of women and girls 15 years of age or older have been abused by close friends.
Killing women

Smuggling

Compulsory child marriages
Childhood marriage is popular in several parts of Africa and South Asia.
In Africa, Niger has the highest rate of child marriage, with 76 percent of women between the ages of 20 and 24 married today before reaching the age of 18.
South Asia also has a high rate of child marriage, with 28 percent of girls being forced to marry before the age of 18 and 7 percent before the age of 15.
Sexual violence in conflict
About 550 of the 638 registered sex offenders in the military have become women, according to figures from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project since January 2020.
Sexual violence in conflict and sexual violence includes rape during wars and atrocities committed by armed individuals and groups.
Africa has the highest number of 376 incidents, the most frequent in the DRC, with 135 incidents involving “unknown forces”.
