Most wildfires were burning in the hot, dry climate of the western United States, as well as lightning-related fires that were heading north of the Arizona city.
The mountain town of Flagstaff was filled with smoke Monday. The International Forest Service has announced a complete closure that is set to begin this week – the first time since 2006.

In New Mexico, a blazing fire has begun to burn in the south of the state where much of Gila Wilderness has been closed, and firefighters are watching the Gila Cliff Dwellings Memorial.
Many new lands in Arizona are currently under construction and a new wildfire is starting to move rapidly. While people are responsible for a massive wildfire, lightning lit up a fire of 80sq-km (31sq-mile) west of Sedona heading for Flagstaff, dubbed the “Rafael Fire”.
A senior management team was tasked with overseeing the burning of grass, juniper, chaparral and ponderosa pine.
Some campers have already left, and villagers have been told to prepare for a temporary escape, said Sheriff County spokesman Jon Paxton.
Thanks to Rafael Fire, all areas south of 1-40, west of I-17, including University Heights, Kachina Village, Forest Highlands, Pine Dell, and Woody Mountain Road are now in SET. Start preparing as much as possible to go to EVACUATE.

If the fire continues to push northeast, hundreds of people in Flagstaff – a college town about two hours north of Phoenix – could also be affected, Paxton said.
Firefighters are making plans for Rafael’s oil famine as it passes through difficult terrain, cliffs and deserts, says Dolores Garcia. As of Monday, it runs along Interstate 40 on the Coconino and Yavapai rivers.
The 7,283sq-mile (2,812sq-mile) Natural Forest, which is a well-known camping site, hiking, boating and fishing, is closing Wednesday due to concerns it does not have enough money to deal with future fires.
The park has been closed slightly in recent years as a result of wildfires.
“We have very little, and we are being caught here,” said forestry spokesman Brady Smith.
Arizona is a fully equipped firefighter. The largest wildfire burning near Superior, about 97km (60 miles) west of Phoenix, was about 70% on Monday. The 730sq-km (282sq-mile) fire was caused by people.
Residents of the small villages of Pine and Strawberry have been evacuated as a result of a wildfire that has jumped between the trees, flames swaying in the wind. Some local roads were also closed.
Firefighters should not own any fire department. Lightning-induced fires are estimated at 132sq km (51sq miles) on Monday and are being monitored by a high-level team.
In Utah, large fires were burning at the bone marrow. A large town near the small town of Enterprise in southern Utah forced people to leave for the weekend. But homeowners were allowed to return because of the 50 percent limit.
