Nair replaces Chanel billionaire owner and founder Alain Wertheimer as CEO.

Top fashion house Chanel has nominated Leena Nair, who works outside India and is a long-time executive at Unilever, to be their new CEO.

Nair said in a Twitter post that he was “a very humble and honorable man to be appointed Global Chief Executive Officer of @CHANEL, a well-known and beloved company”.

The news hit hardest on Wednesday in India, where Nair was born, where he received many good accolades and compliments for his announcement, calling him a “glass-breaker”.

The nomination is full of “history”, says Abhay Gupta, CEO and founder of Luxury Connect India.

“It’s a pleasure. “This is the first time that an Indian has led the international community, which is also an Indian woman, and this is the first time that a foreign businessman has been elected,” she said.

Indians are the forerunners of many professional companies, economists and others around the world, but the same cannot be said of high-tech companies. Gupta, who also runs a boarding school, said his students were “encouraged” by the news.

“It is encouraging and encouraging, especially since we have never seen such a thing. “Coming from a less-than-ideal culture, I hope they come up with new ideas – it’s a sign that things are changing,” he said.

Although Nair, 52, is not part of the Parisian fashion scene, Chanel has a wide range of features including design.

Nair replaces Chanel billionaire owner and founder Alain Wertheimer as CEO. Chanel granddaughter co-founder Pierre Wertheimer, is still the world’s leading fashion chair.

In a statement to the media, Chanel said that recruiting Nair was “ensuring that the private sector is safe for the long term”. He will start his new career at the end of January and live in London, the company said.

Unilever, Britain’s largest retailer, describes Nair as his first wife, the first in Asia and the last in a long career. He joined Unilever in 1992 in India and climbed to the top, spending time in the company’s factories for the first time.

Nair is set to take on a new role in January. Her election is seen at home as a sign of the rise of Indian business leaders, especially women.

In an online comment, Nair described the former PepsiCo-born Indian boss, Indra Nooyi as a friend and mentor. Nair herself was recently awarded the Great Britain Businesswoman Role Model of the Year.

But she is not the first woman to be the CEO of Chanel. In the past, Francoise Montenay and American Maureen Chiquet participated in the session. And of course, co-founder Maison de Chanel was a woman, the late Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel.

Nair is married to businessman Kumar Nair and has two sons.
