After a violent explosion two days east of Caracas, law enforcement officers enter the ‘Cota 905’ area.

Venezuelan troops have invaded other parts of the Caracas capital, seeking to end days of fighting with terrorist groups.

No arrests have been made, but local media reports say 12 people, including others, have lost their lives since clashes broke out between militants and police in the eastern Caracas region on Wednesday.

After two days of heavy gunfire, security forces managed to get inside the “Cota 905” on Friday morning.

“We are renovating the site but there may still be a few more,” a police official told AFP.

The Cota 905 area is a major part of a group called Koki, which met with police and gunmen several times this year.

Although Koki’s leaders fled the police presence, President Nicolas Maduro’s government confirmed on Friday that the destruction of the regional commission was under way.

On Thursday, government officials issued search warrants and paid up to $ 500,000 to terrorists who caused the riots but are now fleeing.

‘Dangerous’

In terrorist-controlled areas, the ground was filled Friday with bullets, evidence of thousands of shootings in two days, according to media reports.

“I’m going to El Valle [area in southwestern Caracas, where a relative lives], because my children are afraid of being there [in Cota 905]; she was crying, so I don’t want to be in the house with her, ”Marleni, an unnamed Cota 905 resident, told the Associated Press.

Enrique Alvarez, a resident of Cota 905, said: “We have been experiencing pain there with those people, since yesterday. That’s what I’m telling you, it’s terrible. No one is used to it.”

Foreign Minister Carmen Melendez sent a message that the police “have made significant progress in rehabilitating the terrorists who have settled in these areas with the aim of spreading terror”.

The government has condemned the violence in what it says protesters want to “disrupt” Maduro.

“The enemies of the world want to sow discord with the help of terrorist groups. We will not sit still,” Maduro wrote on Twitter. “We are working hard, following the rules.”

About 800 security guards were deployed as part of the operation, searching for pedestrians and houses, and confiscating cars, motorcycles and diesel barrels thought to belong to gangs.

In June, a similar shooting killed at least three people, including a nurse who was shot dead.

By 2020, Venezuela recorded 12,000 violent crimes, according to the Venezuela Violence Observatory. This is a figure of 45.6 per 100,000 people – seven times more than the global average.
