Casio developed a very interesting musical keyboard

Casio has not been a major player in the world for synthesizers for some time. Gone are the days of the popular CZ series, where the current list is missing lo-fi charm high-end keyboards such as SK-1 and VL-1. But for the past few weeks the company has been laughter which seemed to go back to the actual synths, probably by a words.

Well, bad news: The Figure CT-S1000V does not return to the glorious days of Casio’s analogy. Nor is it vodka. And the $ 450 The price list is a bit difficult to swallow.

So what exactly is a CT-S1000V? It looks like a mid-range Casiotone that uses the company’s AiX company, with words thrown in as a bonus. In short, it is a dialing keyboard. Honestly, it ‘s unusual to be able to whip up some music in another program, send it to the CT-S1000V, and then play a voice like a song was enough to arouse my curiosity. I am a fan of vocoders, high quality autotune and boxboxes, so music is on my way.

Before we dig deeper into the word part, let’s close the AiX engine and hardware. AiX began rolling out in 2018 and its strength is said to be in reintroducing the word process. And look, the debt to be repaid: The piano sounds at this is very good. Can I say the same for other instruments played here, such as violins, guitars, or trumpets? No. But there are clear logos, including fantasy Casio synth tones, to enjoy for a while.

Not coming to the S1000V and looking forward to custom synchronization synth, however. While there are some adjustments you can make, this is not the keyboard for someone who wants to learn how to integrate or create voice effects. This should appear immediately, as you look ahead. The corrections are minimal. Physically it is very similar to $ 250 Figure CT-S400 more than $ 480 Image of CT-X5000 (The nearest Casio has a traditional synth).

I have never played a modern Casio before, but I must say, the talk machine is impressive. Because the CT-S1000V focuses on growing piano players and home entertainment, being confident is a great help. While speakers built into some keyboards often seem like deep thinking, Casio puts them in a clear position here. When you switch to drum and rhythm presets, it is pretty amazing the amount of bass you get from pushing.

Overall, the CT-S1000V feels well-built. It’s plasticky and the big-most keys are great, but it sounds solid and the spinning wheel becomes your main tool for navigating the shape and content. Casio made some strange decisions, however. For example, a mod knob on top of a pitch wheel. Mod wheels and mod strips? Zedi. Koma mod knob? In this configuration, where the installation may appear to be a support tool, it appears very incomprehensible.

The keyboard also comes with a Bluetooth adapter in the box, but it can also be used to download audio and MIDI data. It cannot be connected to the Lyric Creator program. There are no dedicated MIDI ports on the back and, although they can be used on MIDI on USB I have not been able to use them. There are, however, two rear inputs (one that can be used for reference), including ¼-inch stereo audio out and ⅛-inch jacks for internal audio and audio. There are also two USB ports: one USB-A specifically for the Bluetooth adapter and a small USB connector (sigh) to transfer voice from the app to your phone.

The app was professionally and systematically, and the transfer of music over USB using a camera switch and my old iPhone X was almost instantaneous. Casio says transfers over Bluetooth are not supported because it can be delayed, but just having it as an option would be a good idea.

In this app you can write or order sentences and it will be very good for you to read the words. Your miles may vary, however. Computers are always very good at reproducing human voice and the CT-S1000V is no different. For example, “Engadget” was changed to “en-gadget”. But when the keyboard rang again, it became an “engagement party.” I had to go in and manually change the song to “En-gad-jet” to make it sound better.

You can dive deep and change the phonemes if you wish, and stream real-time using standard music. But there is no denying the fact that finding the right words requires a lot of effort and error, which would not be difficult if you could briefly look at the words provided on your phone before moving them to the keyboard. Right now it’s just a lot back and forth.

On the keyboard itself, you have two main ways to play the voice: either in Voice mode or in Note mode as a single syllable. The first one plays a word using the time you have set. As long as you hold the key, it will sound to you. One issue here is that play resumes from the beginning if you release the keys. With syllable play you can adjust the time and it is easier to hear the music (especially for someone like me who can’t play the piano). But it is still important that your syllables are properly broken or that time will end when you are trying to repeat words.

There are 22 different words to choose from among the designed choirs, from demon bells, to even voice imitation. Some of them sound the same, but different ones are welcome. There are a number of ways to change the wording, including changing the “age” and “gender”, although they greatly change the tone of each word.
