US Justice Dept criticizes Texas for voting maps, citing racism | Political Issues

The department said the Texas system violates U.S. voting laws by limiting the power of Black, Latino and a minority.

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the Texas government over cases that were re-introduced in Congress by states, alleging that the new system violates US voting laws. electing a small number of voters.

The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Texas on Monday, states that Texas maps of congressional and federal states violate a large portion of the well-known 1965 Voting Rights Act.

The lawsuit alleges that the population of Texas over the past decade has come from Black, Latino, and Asian backgrounds, but the new maps drawn by Republicans do not give these states a new opportunity to choose who will represent them.

Instead, maps fill the areas of Black and Latino in the most spectacular districts – the Dallas region is called a “seahorse” – while preserving the safe seats of white Republicans.

The Texas idea “rejects or restricts the right of Latino and Black voters to vote because of their race, ethnicity or membership in a minority language group”, U.S. Attorney Merrick Garland said at a press conference in Washington, DC, declaring the case.

The case is the first in a series of controversies over government maps from US President Joe Biden during the ban.

It comes amid controversy over pushing for Republican-led parliamentary elections to block voting in the 2020 elections. This was encouraged by former President Donald Trump falsehoods that are rampant in deception disrupted last year’s vote.

The Brennan Center for Justice, a New York University research institute that writes laws on voting rights in the US, said that at least 19 countries enacted 33 laws that make it difficult for Americans to vote between January 1 and September 27 this year.

“The trivial case of the Department of Justice against our government is the latest bid of the Biden Administration to control Texas voters,” Paxton said. “I am confident that the re-election of our parliamentary elections will be valid, and this serious attempt to undermine democracy will fail.”

Section 2 of the US Voting Rights Act prohibits mapmakers in U.S. territories from undermining the power of minorities by distributing them in various territories.

“I would like to urge Congress to restore the jurisdiction of the Department of Justice. If it had been, it would not have been here today and I would have filed this complaint,” Garland said.
