US House condemns Republican Congressman Gosar over violent video | Political Issues

“This is not about me … This is what we want to acknowledge,” Congresswoman Alexandrio Ocasio-Cortez says.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted to criticize Republican Congressman Paul Gosar for posting a video of him assassinating progressive adviser Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez.

In 223 to 207 votes mainly in the party on Wednesday, the House criticized Gosar and stripped him of two seats on Congress. One member voted “present” in the election.

“This is not about me. This is not about Representative Gosar. But this is what we have agreed to, “Ocasio-Cortez said ahead of the vote.

He blamed Republicans who had backed Gosar on what he called a “failure to denounce the” causes of violence “for a US Congress member.

A video segment that Gosar posted on Twitter last week showed his face placed on the head of an anime man hitting someone with Ocasio-Cortez’s face with a sword at the back of his neck. The video also shows Gosar wielding two swords at President Joe Biden.

It opens with real-life portraits of refugees across the southern US border and ends with the Arizona flag, where the Gosar region is based.

Wednesday, Gosar, who is a very helpful former President Donald Trump, dismissed the posters as mere words against illegal immigrants, denying the allegations that they were violent or threatening.

“If I have to join Alexander Hamilton, the first person to try to be criticized by this House, let it be so. It’s possible,” he said under the House.

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy came in to defend Gosar, noting that Congress had removed the video. He criticized Democrats for abusing their power as a majority.

“For Democrats, this vote is not about film; it’s about control,” McCarthy said.

Several Republican members admitted the video was inappropriate but said it was not a threat. Some criticized Democrats for using the section to distort reality, including rising inflation and chaos from Afghanistan.

The criticism of the Congress is symbolic, but it shows strong opposition and is justified by the legislators. The last time U.S. lawmakers criticized a fellow member in 2010 for taking action against New York Democrat Charles Rangel for violating the law.

Banning requires a lot of simple votes. Removing a member of Congress takes two-thirds of the time.

Earlier this year, the House of Representatives fired the Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from committees set up on pornographic TV shows promoting propaganda and terrorist attacks against Democrats.

Wednesday, many Democrats mentioned January 6 episodes at the Capitol – when Trump supporters stormed Congress in protest of legislators’ efforts to secure Biden’s victory – demonstrating the link between rhetoric and actual violence.

“When members of Congress and other elected officials speak and act, our elected officials and our followers have great respect for our words and actions,” said Chief Executive Steny Hoyer.

Earlier this year, Gosar criticized the Department of Justice’s efforts to investigate and prosecute those suspected of involvement in Capitol violence, calling them “peace activists”.
