The troops were overseeing the timber trade as part of ECOMIG, a peacekeeping operation from the bloc of the Economic Community of West African States States.
The MFDC was formed in 1982 to fight for the rights of Casamance.
The group has been asleep since the fire broke out in 2014, but the Senegalese government has repeatedly criticized it and continues to make money through the sale of timber between Senegal and Gambia, a small border that borders three parts. Senegal.
ECOMIG, made up mainly of Senegalese troops, was sent to Gambia in January 2017 after former longtime governor Yahya Jammeh refused to relinquish power after failing in a presidential election.
