NY attorney general Letitia James launched the survey in 2019 to determine whether the Trump administration had undermined the importance of tax and insurance requirements.

Former President Donald Trump has sued New York Attorney General Letitia James, claiming that long-term Democrats’ investigation into his large real estate company is being done for political gain.

The state investigation is a “baseless” and “jealous” fishing trip aimed at harassing Trump and violating his legal rights, according to a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Albany, New York. James sought to remove Trump from the oath of office on January 7 as part of a two-year investigation, according to a person familiar with the matter.

“For years, he has been abusing his investigative powers to fight his enemies and advance his cause,” Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, said in a statement. “His constant attacks on Donald J. Trump are a good example.”

James, who was appointed new ambassador to New York earlier this month, began the investigation in 2019 to find out if the Trump administration in Manhattan has been lowering the cost of essential tax and insurance. Since then, the company has been embroiled in litigation over government subpoenas.

James did not immediately respond to a text message.

The lawsuit includes material that Trump describes as evidence of James’ actions in his investigation, including an August 2018 tweet he wrote before taking office, citing former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen saying he wanted to appeal.

“You and your friends are not above the law. Every day we are approaching justice, “James said in a tweet.” Just wait until I am in the Attorney General’s office. “

Eric Trump, one of the children of the former President and vice-president of the Trump Organization, was fired by state investigators in October 2020 after a court battle to delay questioning.

In July, Manhattan County Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., in conjunction with James, criticized the Trump Organization and its former finance minister, Allen Weisselberg, over a number of high-profile cases, including the use of luxury cars. and rooms. Weisselberg and the company denied the wrongdoing.

The Trump Organization has repeatedly called the study a political one. In May, Trump issued a statement criticizing James and Vance for “having a chance, unprecedented, and squandering the assets of President Donald J. Trump.”

The main focus of James’ research was to expose the Trump Organization at Seven Springs, a 212-acre site in Westchester County, New York. His office has been trying to determine if the company has provided the correct management of the property when it became the basis for $ 21.1 million in tax evasion by providing a maintenance tax for the 2015 tax year.

Trump’s 40 Wall Street skyscraper and his Chicago hotel are just some of the highlights of the attorney general’s investigation, which coincided with an in-depth Manhattan district attorney’s investigation into bank fraud, lending and taxation.
