Tehran, Iran – UAE chief security adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan is on his way to Iran to discuss high-level issues that appear to be a possible signal of the end of relations between the two countries.
Sheikh Tahnoon, the brother of the prime minister and Abu Dhabi prince, Mohammed bin Zayed, spoke about improving relations and what is happening in the Tehran region of Tehran on Monday.
He first met his counterpart Ali Shamkhani, a secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), before meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
Based on what he read in Iran at the summit, Mr Shamkhani said establishing a “loving and friendly” relationship with neighbors is Iran’s most important political issue.
The security chief also stressed that countries in the region should not be affected by external influences and intrusions, and should focus on resolving military and security issues through dialogue and non-military dialogue.
Shamkhani hopes that Sheikh Tahnoon’s visit “will be the beginning of a new chapter in relationships and will make excuses to strengthen all relationships”.
The UAE is part of a Saudi-led coalition against the Houthi-backed Houthi military in Yemen, a country with a military presence. a major humanitarian crisis.
Iran and Saudi Arabia have been discussing four Iraq missions in Baghdad since April.
The two foreign ministers met separately at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September this year but no further talks have been announced.
At Monday’s meeting with Shamkhani, Sheikh Tahnoon was quoted as saying that the UAE also seeks to forge a “loving and friendly” relationship with Iran as a political force.
He said the two countries should establish working groups that can identify areas that can strengthen economic ties, travel, energy, and health as well as barriers that need to be removed.
The trip comes after Iran’s nuclear weapons chief, Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, traveled to Dubai in late November to meet with several Emirati officials.
He also said in a tweet after the meetings that he had “agreed to open a new chapter” in a middle-class relationship.
A few days later, Bagheri traveled to Vienna to lead Iran’s delegation to the seventh round of international dialogue aimed at restoring Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal.
