The government has adjourned the trial of three men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery after giving evidence that the accused mistakenly thought that Arbery, a black man, was suspected of having committed a crime in southern Georgia.

Several witnesses testified Tuesday, including Dr Edmund Donoghue, a medical examiner at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who said Arbery was hit by two of the three bullets that fired at him.

“Is there anything the police or EMS could do to save his life on the scene?” prosecutor Linda Dunikoski questioned a medical examiner.

“I do not think so. No, ”replied Donoghue.

Arbery, aged 25, he was running through the Brunswick area, a coastal area 480km (300 miles) southeast of Atlanta, February 23, 2020.

Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online. Gregory McMichael, 65, his son Travis McMichael, 35, and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan, 52

The video showing Arbery’s assassination leaked in early May last year, outraged and called for justice that led to McMichaels and Bryan, both white.

Arbery’s name was questioned at a protest rally that rocked the country after the genocide. George Floyd at the end of May 2020 by a Minnesota police officer, whose murder was re-recorded on video.

Arbery’s last-minute video has been played several times in court cases. It shows Travis McMichael shooting Arbery during a fight. It was filmed by Bryan who joined McMichaels’ search for Arbery and later told investigators that he had tried to use the car to block Arbery’s path.

During the trial, prosecutors relied on what the defendants said to the investigators, to have the witnesses read aloud.

“He was caught like a rat,” senior McMichael told detective police a few hours after chasing Arbery. “I think he wanted to run away and realized that, you know, he doesn’t run away.”

Initially, the prosecutors denied any wrongdoing in the case Arbery case. A few months later, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took the investigation into the video. The defendants were arrested and charged with murder.

Arbery was seen entering a house under construction. The landlord says Arbery did not steal anything.

But the defendants said they followed him to stop him until police arrived. At the time, Georgia had a law allowing citizens to be arrested; was abolished after the assassination of Arbery.

Lawyers say young McMichael defended himself when he shot Arbery, who allegedly reached for McMichael’s gun.

Prosecutor Dunikoski repeatedly stated that the defendants acted in good faith when they followed Arbery without question.

“He thought he must have been guilty that day,” Dunikoski said in his inaugural address earlier this month.

“They tried to run to their car and run away from the strangers, who had previously threatened to kill her. Then he killed her. ”

The case appears to be the highest test of justice since Derek Chauvin was found guilty in June of Floyd’s murder. Eleven of the 12 judges are white, although the judge has ruled that black judges have been fired on purely racial grounds.

Kevin Gough, Bryan’s lawyer, began crying last week he complained about the presence of human rights leaders in court, saying “we no longer want black pastors to come here”.

Gough argued that the presence of non-related pastors could affect judges negatively.

On Monday, Judge Timothy Walmsley denounced Gough’s remarks as “wrong”. He also rejected a request for a Reverend Jesse Jackson get out of court.

The defense attorneys will continue to present their case to the jury in the coming days before the litigation closes.
