Texans allowed to carry hidden guns without permits | Gun Violence Stories

The governor of Texas has signed a law allowing illegal firearms, hidden from public view.

The governor of Texas has signed a travel permit hidden guns without permission, joining 20 other countries that already have these methods.

Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, said the law is part of a package that he says turns Texas into a “Second Amendment” where new gun laws will not be enforced.

Abbott signed a legal ceremony at The Alamo in San Antonio on Thursday, but has already signed the law on Wednesday, according to a Texas parliamentary page, as the first Texas Tribune report.

The law comes into effect on September 1.

“You could say that today I have signed other gun protection laws, but today I have signed documents that promote freedom in Lone Star State,” Abbott told a news conference Thursday.

“For those who believe in and believe in the Second Amendment, we support the right of every American law-abiding citizen to have a weapon of self-defense,” he added. Among those who joined Abbott at the fourth event was National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre.

Texas law is the latest in a series of back-and-forth wars in the state between its supporters strict gun rules and those who want to remove many obstacles to owning a gun.

Gun violence killed 38,707 people in the United States in 2019, the most recent year in full numbers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – the highest in any developed country.

Matt Schaefer, a Republican spokesman who wrote the bill, which advocates gun rights, calling the law “law enforcement”, wrote that the law protects the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which protects the right to bear arms, and restores all obedient rights of armed gunmen. .

Kevin Lawrence, executive director of the Texas Municipal Police Association, a large group representing government officials, said the ordinance would be a huge burden on traffic police.

“We’ve been debating the bill ever since,” Lawrence said.

He added that although the new law adds to the list of people who are prohibited from carrying a weapon, it will now be the responsibility to beat the police to determine if a person is prohibited from carrying a weapon.

“We have moved the goods to the police on the street, and we have made it very difficult for them,” Lawrence said.

He further added that police are keenly aware of the number of patrols that determine who can carry a firearm, “not a police officer who should be identified at 3am south of Lubbock”.

In the past, if a person in Texas wants to own a concealed weapon, he or she must review the background and study four or six hours of gun law, conflict resolution and re-training of firearms, before obtaining a license.

Everytown for Gun Safety, a advocacy group that works hard on gun control in the US, has criticized the law, saying it would increase the number of gun deaths in Texas.

The group, which spends millions of dollars on political competitions across the country, has vowed to crack down on Texas politicians who support this.
