Sudan wants UN Security Council to discuss Nile dam in Ethiopia | Stories of Egypt

Sudan, Egypt want foreign intervention before Ethiopian plans to continue the second filling of the pool this summer.

Sudan has called on the United Nations Security Council to meet and discuss the dispute over Ethiopia’s largest dam on the Blue Nile.

Ethiopia relies on the hope of economic development and power generation at the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), while the two low-income countries – Egypt and Sudan – are concerned about this and want a cohesive partnership to fill the pool.

The Egyptians depend on the Nile River for 90% of its freshwater and consider the lake to be a threat.

Sudan is concerned about the movement of its dams and its Nile rivers.

On Tuesday, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariam Sadiq al-Mahdi called on the Security Council to hold a series of talks soon to discuss GERD and its “security and safety concerns for millions of people,” the government said.

In his letter, al-Mahdi called on the council chief to urge Ethiopia to refrain from “joining” a “dam” that fuels conflict and threatens peace and security in the region and the world, “he said.

Ethiopian officials have not responded to the letter.

Earlier this month, Sudan and Egypt agreed to work together on all fronts to force Ethiopia to negotiate “in depth” on the agreement, negotiations backed by the Union were abandoned.

The two countries called on other countries to take action.

Arab countries have called on the Security Council to discuss the dispute and Ethiopia’s decision to continue filling the solar system with cooperation from Sudan and Egypt.

Ethiopia has rejected the Arab League’s decision.

The Arab League’s UN envoy, Maged Abdel Fattah, said on Tuesday night that Sudan and Egypt were working to register a Security Council at GERD if Ethiopia could not reach an agreement.

The Arabian Peninsula demands that the law be ratified, Fattah told Egyptian television station Sada Elbalad, adding that he did not expect the international community to intervene.

Ethiopia has already rejected calls from Egypt and Sudan to include diplomats outside the African Union.

Sudan said in early June that it was temporarily open on a multi-million dollar deal with cultures.
