Suarez was awarded a 2-1 victory on the final day as Real Madrid finished second despite coming back.
Atletico Madrid were named La Liga champions for the first time since 2014 by former champion Luis Suarez who won 2-1 against Valladolid.
Suarez scored Atletico’s 58th minute after Angel Correa sealed Oscar Plano’s opening goal for Valladolid on Saturday.
Elsewhere, rivals Real Madrid beat Villarreal 2-1 but it was not enough to reduce the two-point deficit.

Atletico finished well on 86 points, while Real finished second on 84 points.
“The world is going through a phase right now so if we can give people happiness it means a lot to us,” Atletico boss Diego Simeone told La Liga TV.
“The first thing that came to my mind was a smile. I wanted to laugh. I do not know why. It’s a joy that burns inside.
