Iran says nuclear deal can be achieved if US sanctions are lifted | Stories

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Iran wants sanctions to be imposed and not to retaliate.

Iran’s Foreign Minister said a treaty could be reached with the world’s most powerful nuclear powers if the Western powers had the will and purpose to do so.

In an interview with Al Jazeera on Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said a deal could be reached if all sanctions were lifted.

The eighth round of talks to restore Iran’s nuclear weapons base in 2015 is underway in Vienna, where Iran is still looking at the guarantee that US sanctions will be lifted.

Negotiations of the treaty, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), are taking place between Iran and the world powers that have signed the treaty. The United States, which abolished the treaty in 2018, is engaging in indirect negotiations.

JCPOA provided relief to Iran in exchange for its nuclear program. But after leaving the US, Iran abandoned other options and now uses high-centrifuges to produce uranium up to 60 percent.

After its departure, the US repatriated disabled sanctions to Iran.

Tehran now demands that US sanctions be lifted permanently, and that it guarantees that the US will no longer withdraw from the alliance, and calls for it to be given time to ensure that sanctions are properly lifted.

“The imposition of sanctions would mean the removal of all forms of sanctions outlined in the nuclear deal, and the sanctions imposed by Trump are in violation of the agreement,” Amir-Abdollahian told Al Jazeera.

“We want guarantees that include not issuing new sanctions, and not reversing sanctions after removing any fraudulently,” he said.

The Iranian official said the “most effective example” of this would be Iran’s ability to export oil and earn money through the country’s banks.

“There is a casual and casual exchange of Americans in Vienna – we hear good news from the delegates, but what is really important to us is seeing what is happening and what is happening in America,” said Amir-Abdollahian.

Dorsa Jabbari of Al Jazeera, from Vienna, said Amir-Abdollahian seemed “optimistic”.

“The technical issues and the problems they had in the negotiations have been resolved,” Jabbari said.

“The foreign minister also spoke of Iran’s situation – it provided excellent examples of what it wants,” he added.
