US Ambassador to China: China is doing more ‘oppressive, aggressively’ | Anti-Border Issues
Antony Blinken says the United States’ goal is not to have China but to comply with international law.
China’s strongest opposition to the global system, acting “extremely” at home and “aggressively” overseas as it tests its power, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement on US television.
“What we have seen over the past few years is China being more violent at home and stronger outside. This is true,” Blinken said in an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes Sunday.
The US ambassador to the United States said China was “extremely anti-extremist” but asked if Washington was going to war with Beijing, Blinken replied: “It is against the wishes of China and the United States, that until then, or even go there.”
Biden has cited competition with China as a major problem in his foreign rule. In his inaugural address to Congress last Wednesday, he pledged to remain with the US military in the Indo-Pacific and to promote development in the US.
Biden said he told Chinese President Xi Jinping that in the race to be strong in the 21st century, “we welcome the race – and that we do not want conflicts”.
Blinken arrived in London on Sunday for a G7 foreign ministers’ meeting China is one of the topics being discussed.
In a 60-minute interview, Blinken said China is “the only country in the world that has the weapons, the economy, the law to disrupt or oppose the laws that we care about and are determined to protect.
“Our goal is not to have China, to bring it back, to overthrow it; and to comply with this order in accordance with China’s objections. ”
Conflicts between Washington and Beijing have arisen over the past few years over trade to human rights, including what Washington claims to be generosity against the Muslim Uighurs especially in the western part of Xinjiang, the overthrow of politicians and freedom fighters in Hong Kong and on the autonomous island of Taiwan.
Last month, Blinken said the US was concerned about China’s actions against Taiwan and warned it was “a serious mistake” for anyone to try to force a change in the West Pacific forcibly.
The U.S. is making a long-term commitment under the Taiwan Relations Act to ensure the island is self-sufficient and to establish stability and security in the western Pacific, Blinken said.
Taiwan has complained about the past few months of sent repeatedly by the Chinese military near the island, which China claims as its own.
