“Iran’s right to vote in the General Assembly is expected to be restored immediately with compensation,” the ministry added.

The Seoul UN office was not immediately available for comment.

Iran urgently appealed to South Korea last week to help pay for UN aid and freezes by losing its voting rights to the 193-member general assembly, the South Korean government said.

Tehran has repeatedly demanded the release of about $ 7bn of its deposits in South Korean banks under US sanctions, saying Seoul is holding “money” of the money.

South Korea’s finance minister declined to comment and how much of Iran’s remaining money remains after these UN payments and other releases last year, citing secret laws.
