Nicaragua: Police arrest the brother of the opposition leader Chamorro | Election Issues

Nicaraguan police have arrested the brother of former opposition leader Cristiana Chamorro as President Daniel Ortega is heavily criticized for those who want to oppose it continues for several months before the elections.

But government agencies and human rights activists have criticized the 75-year-old – who ruled Nicaragua from 1979 to 1990 and returned to power in 2007, and won two successive elections since then – for more power.

The magnitude of the arrests prompted Mexico and Argentina to remove their ambassadors to Nicaragua on June 21, when the two countries raised concerns about “political atrocities and the Nicaraguan government’s actions”.

The United States of America (OAS) re-issued the election this month in response to fears of “recent political instability and human rights abuses”.

Former president Pedro Joaquin opposed Ortega and was a member of the opposition Citizen Alliance, which seeks to challenge the election.

He is the son of former Nicaraguan President Violeta Chamorro, who defeated Ortega in 1990.

Pedro Joaquin’s brother, well-known journalist Carlos Fernando Chamorro, said on Twitter that his brother had been “caught” by police who “fabricated false allegations against citizens seeking free elections”.

Carlos Fernando this week fled outside with his wife after police entered his home.

Police in early June as well attacked the house about his sister, Cristiana Chamorro, falsely accusing him of stealing money. He denied the allegations, saying it was an attempt to prevent him from running for president.
