The Mercedes driver won the race against Verstappen who was second in the race on Sunday.

Britain’s Lewis Hamilton will kick off on Sunday at the opening ceremony of the Qatar Formula One Grand Prix ahead of the Max Verstappen international tournament.

Hamilton of Mercedes clocked one minute of 20.827 seconds on the Losail International Circuit which had previously just watched the MotoGP run.

It was Hamilton’s fourth season this season and the biggest 102nd record ever.

Verstappen of Red Bull followed by about half a second, a different team coach Helmut Marko called it “dangerous”.

Valtteri Bottas was third in the second Mercedes.

Verstappen leads the way, 14 points ahead of Hamilton and the remaining three points in a fierce competition, and Hamilton believes his price will also help reduce interest rates on Sunday.

The timing difference will give everyone at Red Bull a restless night – in about half a second, a clear indication that Hamilton’s new engine, which was launched last week, has given new life to its quest for the eighth title.

Hamilton is strong after an impressive victory from 10th on the grid last week in Brazil.

“I was here until midnight last night working with engineers, who also work very late, and are very hardworking, and they found a lot of areas that I could adapt to,” Hamilton said.

Mercedes was given an unexpected chance in their biggest fight against Red Bull after Verstappen teammate Sergio Perez failed to qualify for the Q3 top 10 race.

Qatar F1 facts

Sunday’s competition is the first in a 10-year partnership between F1 and Qatar, and teams are still learning the process. Qatar will be the 36th country to have Formula One.

Total length (57 laps): 306.66km (190.54 miles)

The region has had MotoGP since 2004, becoming a nightclub in 2008 when it reopened the season.
