In a recent Netflix video Do not look up, two scientists are trying to warn indifferent people that a comet is about to collapse on the planet. Science fiction editor John Joseph Adams says the film is an interesting example of satirical sci-fi.
“I was amazed at how much I enjoyed that aspect,” says Adams in Section 497 of the book. Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy podcast. “I thought maybe science fiction or comedy stories would do well, but not both.”
The video was made as a metaphor for climate change, but Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy recipient David Barr Kirtley says that the film’s graphic portrait of small and insignificant objects encourages multiple readings. “The concept of climate change becomes clearer when scientists try to warn journalists of the dangers and negligence,” he says. “But I feel like a lot of the insults are passed on to the media so that’s what puts me in my mind.”
Do not look up it is currently the second most watched video on Netflix, but has received various comments from critics. A comedian Tom Manager he says the film probably got too close to home for some readers. “I think a lot of critics thought, ‘I know what this is. It will point the finger at people I do not like,’ ‘he says. I don’t like that. ‘”
Fictional Writer Erin Lindsey rejoiced Do not look up but I wish it would show depth and determination. “I want to see more movies that try to do what the film wants to do,” he says. “I just urge the writers not to make this American, because it amazes me that you can symbolize global climate change and take a closer look at the United States.”

I worked at the UN for a very long time, including attending Security Council meetings – closed meetings, not the ones you see on TV … It was funny to me because one of the incidents my sister mentioned was laughter at the White House, where she explained The president and he is not afraid of this issue. And I really thought the incident was, perhaps a frustrating enough, fact. I have seen how the world’s leaders can react, to a degree. It’s right Meryl Streep ‘s mentions some of the consequences, “Do you know how many ‘end of the world’ meetings I have had?” And really that is just a little exaggeration. That is why many of the methods that came down – the opening form – were real.
Tom Gerencer on religion:
Toward the end of this episode, Jennifer Lawrence’s girlfriend begins praying. And I said, “Well, we’re going. They will begin to drag religion down into the mud. ” And I said, “Everything. They are dragging everyone through the mud. Who cares? “But they didn’t. They made him start praying, and he was like,” Do you think that ‘s stupid? that he has this true religion or connected with God, whatever you want to call it, that they never laughed at. They treated it reverently, and that touched my heart.
John Joseph Adams pa The Hopkins Manuscript:
When they tried to dig a missing salt mine, it reminded me of a book called satirical apocalypse called. The Hopkins Manuscript … In this book, the moon rises, and it falls on the earth, and people are doing the same thing with each other — even though they do not believe that it really happens. This happened after World War I, and the world has just had this great conflict, and then there is peace. But the moon is eclipsing the Atlantic Ocean, and it is just as fragile as a pancake, creating a new maze of salty North America and Europe, so everyone returns to the battlefield thanks to this new source. [Don’t Look Up] it reminded me a lot of it, because there were so many similarities.
David Barr Kirtley on nature:
There is something about [the last scene] that was unforgettable and terrifying. I feel like 20 years from now, when I think about this movie, that’s the thing that will affect me … “Oh, if nature gets worse on Earth, we’ll just go to another planet,” and this species is fed in it. I hope most people understand that it does not happen, that there is nowhere near even very close to sending people to another planet. But I feel like there are enough people who don’t understand that somehow I just want to do everything I can to make the message clear. As the environmentalists say, “No Planet B.” We are not going to another planet. You can get it off your head right now.
