Israel’s attorney general has told the Supreme Court not to interfere in Sheikh Jarrah’s well-known cases, while four Palestinian families living in East Jerusalem should be expelled as soon as possible instead of favoring Israeli organizations.

In a statement released Monday, Avichai Mendelblit said there was “no room” for intervention.

Last month, the Supreme Court gave the attorney general until June 8 to comment on the matter.

In a letter to the court, Mendelblit wrote that in light of the many legal processes that have taken place in the region for Sheikh Jarrah over the years, he saw no need to appear in court.

The attorney general’s decision has left the Supreme Court free to decide whether to hear the appeal of four Palestinian families in two court cases that require them to leave their home.

The four families are a group of more than 500 Palestinian people – with 28 families – who are being forced to flee the area.

Sami Irsheid, a lawyer with Sheikh Jarrah’s security forces who have been threatened with forced eviction, told Al Jazeera that Mendelblit’s view does not mean the case is no longer political.

“The attorney general’s response was temporary, when he said he felt there was no need to intervene as there was a problem,” Irsheid said. “But we will not stop arguing with them on international cases.”

Haaretz also told Mendelblit officials that the case against Sheikh Jarrah’s family was weak, and that “his legal views could not justify his deportation.”

According to Sheikh Jarrah’s family, Mendelbit’s refusal to allow the Mendelbit to intervene in the matter did not mean that the case was a criminal offense but a forced eviction.

Irsheid said the ball is now in the corner of the court.

“It is up to the Supreme Court to decide whether they want to hear from the attorney general or be satisfied with what he said,” he told Al Jazeera.

The court is expected to issue a ruling in favor of Israeli organizations, but Irsheid said it did not agree that Mendelblit’s view would change the course of the court.
