The results of the last elections have confirmed the victory of Muqtada al-Sadr, a prominent Shia leader, whose political party the Sadrist Movement won 73 of the 329 seats.

Baghdad, Iraq – A political party led by Shia leader Muqtada al-Sadr has been declared the winner of the October parliamentary elections.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the final results on Tuesday following several weeks of reconsideration greater denial from the conquering groups.

Five seats were changed as a result of the appeal and re-reading process in the headquarters; Baghdad, Nineveh, Eribil, Kirkuk and Basra.

“We have committed ourselves to addressing the consequences of the election in a lawful, and honest and impartial manner,” Jalil Adnan Khalaf, chairman of the election committee, told a news conference.

The election results also confirmed the victory of al-Sadr, a prominent Shia religious leader whose political party, the Sadrist Movement, has won 73 of the 329 seats in the next parliament.

The al-Fatah alliance, whose main divisions and forces affiliated with the Iranian military backed by the Popular Mobilization Forces, continued to lose and seize 17 seats – no change in initial results, even repeated repetition of so-called “fraudulent” measures.

The number of Taqadum, or Progress Party, led by the Sunni Speaker, Mohammed al-Halbousi, of Sunni – remained the same, 37 seats. Former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s party lost two seats and 33 seats. to parliament.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) won 31 seats, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) won 18.

The last vote put 44 percent of the vote – the lowest since the US-led coup overthrew Saddam Hussein and established new politics in 2003.

“Now the Fatahs have to decide whether to accept the results and negotiate a new government or to increase their opposition,” wrote Sajad Jiyad, a colleague of the Century Foundation.

“Sadr also has to decide if he wants to abundant government at the risk of failure and see a strong competitive advantage, or accept an existing alliance.

“The new government or PM could be left in a few months,” he added.
