India’s Sunil Chhetri surpasses Lionel Messi in World Cup scoring
The Indian star surpassed Argentina’s Messi after scoring both goals as his country won 2 in Bangladesh in Doha.
Indian star Sunil Chhetri outscored Lionel Messi in the World Cup, after scoring both goals in his country’s 2-0 win over Bangladesh in Doha, Qatar.
Chhetri netted 72 goals for Messi of Argentina as he opened the scoring in the 79th minute on Monday, in a qualifier for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asia Cup.
The 36-year-old striker added a second in injury time, making all of his goals for 74, India, who have already come out of contention to qualify for the World Cup but could now qualify for the Asia Cup in China.
Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo is the first in the world rankings among players with 103 goals.
With 73 terrorists, Ali Mabkhout of the United Arab Emirates is also ahead of Messi – a six-time Ballon d’Or winner who is known as the greatest player of all time.

India Soccer Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel has thanked the captain for taking the lead.
“Our @IndianFootball striker Sunil Chhetri adds another feather to his leading cap as he captures Lionel Messi to become the world’s second highest scorer with 74 goals,” Patel wrote on Twitter.
“Thank you very much Captain Fantastic & I wish him well in the future.”
India will face Afghanistan again in a qualifier on June 15.
