Additional goals from Amr Sayoud and Yacine Brahimi gave Algeria a 2-0 win over their Tunisian counterparts in the Arab Cup final at Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar on Saturday.
He added an Arab crown to the title of the Africa Cup of Nations which Algeria won in 2019 and will defend Cameroon next month.
Sayoud, 31, made his international debut in Algeria in the opening match of the tournament but did not play again until just after the final hour.
His 99-minute free kick gave Tunisian footballer Mouez Hassen the opportunity to turn Sayoud into a world champion.
Brahimi scored the game in the final when Tunisia pushed everyone into the last corner and ran without the ball being cleared by the Algerian defense.
Both countries are playing without their European players and looked tired at the end of the 18-day tournament but still struggled to reach the goals scored by 60,456 people.
The competition was designed as a way to try on next year’s World Cup dress code. This was the first time that fans had filled the stadiums built by the Gulf Arabs in preparation for the World Cup.
Thousands of cars loaded with fans decorated with Algerian, Tunisian and Qatari flags headed north along the road to Al Bayt Stadium, about 50km north of Qatar’s capital, Doha.
The stadium, which resembles a large black and white Bedouin tent as used by immigrants from the Arab Gulf, was the opening venue for the World Cup.
