Hamas leader warns Israel over East Jerusalem | Hamas News

Hamas leader Mohammed Deif warned Israel that it would pay more if Sheikh Jarrah’s threats continued.

The Palestinian militant group, Hamas, has warned Israel against a crackdown on Palestinian civilians in East Jerusalem, saying Israel would “pay a high price” for its actions.

“The Qassam Brigades will not stand still in the face of threats from Sheikh Jarrah’s region,” Mohammed Deif, a senior brigades official, said in a statement on Tuesday night.

“They will pay a high price if the oppression of our people in the Sheikh Jarrah area does not end immediately,” he said, adding that he was following up on what was happening.

Deif, who has been wanted in Israel for many years, has praised the “immovable people” of Sheikh Jarrah, who are facing the challenge of leaving their homeland.

The city was captured by Israeli forces on Tuesday night. Residents and allies were doused with skunk water, a type of toilet water, and beaten.

Several Palestinians have been arrested, including Tala Obeid, Omar al-Khatib and Mahmoud Nabil al-Kurd, whose family is moving from their homes in East Jerusalem. Al-Kurd and another Palestinian were released Wednesday morning, but the arrest of al-Khatib, a local freedom fighter, has been increased.

On Monday, at least 20 Palestinians were injured in an altercation after Israeli police staged a protest in favor of Sheikh Jarrah’s residents.

The Israeli regional court in East Jerusalem upheld a decision to leave six Palestinian families in their homes in May in favor of those living in Israel. The same court ruled that seven other Sheikh Jarrah families should leave the house on August 1.

Since 1956, 37 Palestinian families have been living in 27 houses in the area – including 28 refugee families who were washed in their homes in Jaffa and Haifa in 1948.

However, illegal Jewish settlers have been trying to evict them in accordance with a law passed by the Israeli parliament in 1970.

The Palestinians are said to have established their homes in 1956 in collaboration with the Jordanian government, which at the time had jurisdiction over the region, and the UN refugee agency UNWA.

In the past few years, Palestinians have been forcibly relocated from three houses in the region after Israeli courts ruled.
