Haiti has arrested people suspected of being behind the assassination of President Moise | Latin America News

Authorities said they arrested the Haitian man, who lives in Florida, Florida, on Sunday.

Haitian police have arrested one of the suspects in connection with the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.

Authorities say they arrested a Haitian man living in Florida, Florida, who accused him of hiring workers to oust the president.

Moise was shot dead Wednesday morning at his home in Port-au-Prince by what Haitian authorities say is a group of 26 Colombian and two Haiti-American assassins.

National Police Chief Leon Charles told a news conference Sunday that the arrested man, Christian Emmanuel Sanon, 63, had flown to Haiti with special security guards in early June, and wanted to take over the President.

He allegedly hired a Colombian employee through an independent business company in Venezuela, Florida.

A doctor is the third person in the United States living in Haiti – as well as a 21st person – to be detained if he has doubts about the case.

Charles did not elaborate on Sanon’s intentions except to say that he was a politician.

“The task of the attackers was initially to ensure that Emmanuel Sanon, but later the task was changed,” Charles said.

Charles added that among the items found by police at Sanon’s home in Haiti was a hat with the US Drug Enforment Administration logo, 20 boxes of ammunition, firearms, four driver’s licenses from the Dominican Republic, two cars and unidentified personal letters.

Haitian police have arrested 18 Colombians and three Haiti-Americans, including Sanon, on charges of murder, Charles said. Five Colombis people are still at risk and three have been killed, he said.

Suspected assassins told investigators they were there to apprehend him, not kill him, the Miami Herald and an informant said earlier in the week.
