The secretary-general of the cabinet has stopped questioning Downing Street parties after claiming he had broken the law again.
A United Kingdom government official who has been working to investigate allegations of political activity by Prime Minister Boris Johnson has dropped.
Simon Case, Britain’s secretary general, resigned on Friday following reports of a rally in his office.
“In order to ensure that the investigation maintains public confidence, the Secretary-General has resigned,” said a spokesman for Johnson’s office.
“The project will be completed by Sue Gray, the second permanent secretary in the Leveling Up, Housing and Communities department.
“He has confirmed the facts and presented his findings to the Prime Minister.”
Johnson asked for the case to be investigated after a video released earlier this month showed Prime Minister’s staff laughing and joking about the Downing Street party during the Christmas holidays in 2020 when such celebrations were banned.
The photos released seem to contradict what Johnson and his staff deny the party took place.
The mentioned parties sparked criticism from political opponents and frustrated voters who were told by the government to make their Christmas offerings last year.
