Former United States President Bob Dole has died at the age of 98 | Stories

Dole announced in February that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer and had begun receiving treatment.

Bob Dole, a five-year U.S. senator and Republican president elected in 1996, died Sunday. He was 98 years old.

He won the wounds of World War II to become a prominent figure in US politics representing Kansas in Congress for 35 years.

Dole, who is known for his wisdom that goes from mock to caustic, died in his sleep, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation said. A former U.S. politician announced in February that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer and has begun receiving treatment.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Senator Robert Joseph Dole this morning,” the foundation said on Twitter. He faithfully served in the United States for 79 years. ”

Dole ran for office three times and was elected Republican in 1996 but lost to former Democratic leader Bill Clinton.

The Republican leader was elected vice-president of his party in 1976 on a ticket led by President Gerald Ford but lost to Democrat Jimmy Carter and his colleague Walter Mondale.

Dole, known to call himself the third person, traveled the famous American voyage from the poverty of the Great Depression of the 1930s, through World War II to the most respectable territories in the Midwest.

He represented Kansas in Congress for 35 years: 1961 to 1969 in the House of Representatives and 1969 to 1996 in the Senate.

He helped lead Republican President Ronald Reagan as Senate leader in the 1980’s and led his important legislation.
