Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has returned to Kyiv to meet sedition cases in cases allegedly made by the ally of his successor, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Poroshenko arrived at Zhuliany airport in the Ukrainian capital on Monday after a flight from Warsaw and was greeted by thousands who followed her.

His return sparks controversy with the Zelenskyy government over what observers say is a haphazard disruption at a time when Ukraine is preparing for what it fears could happen. Russia’s military invasion is imminent and request assistance from Western organizations.

The former president, one of Ukraine’s richest businessmen, has been abroad for several weeks, meeting with leaders in Brussels, Berlin and other European cities.

During a brief stop at the border, Poroshenko accused border guards of confiscating his passport. He later appeared in a crowd of supporters following the flag outside the airport.

Poroshenko is expected to appear in court, where he will have to serve a sentence of incarceration pending an investigation and trial.

At another conference, Ukrainian researchers said they had tried to issue a subpoena to a 56-year-old man, who refused to take the documents.

Very deceptive accusations

Prosecutors allege that Poroshenko was involved in the sale of more coal that contributed to Russia’s separatist spending that sparked tensions in eastern Ukraine in 2014-15.

Poroshenko’s assets were suspended as part of a series of high-profile investigations. He will serve 15 years in prison if convicted.

Poroshenko insists he is innocent. He blames Zelenskyy for trying to discredit him politically in order to disrupt the crisis in Ukraine, including the economic crisis and the death of COVID-19.

The case is the latest in a series of high-profile cases involving Poroshenko, who has a history of change in circumstances. Zelenskyy defeated him in the 2019 election.

The allegations have raised concerns about the establishment of non-democratic protests and have caused Ukraine’s unified fears.

Zelenskyy is said to be fighting the oligarchs whose goal is to reduce their political and economic power in Ukraine.

Poroshenko’s supporters consider the charges against him to be politically motivated.

“I am retaliating against the authorities and Zelenskyy’s attempt to eliminate its main enemy in Ukrainian politics,” Anton Ivashchenko, 42, told The Associated Press at the airport.

“Poroshenko’s persecution leads to hatred and conflict between those who want … Ukraine’s intimate relations with the whites.”
