Philippine troops have found the last five people killed in a plane crash in the south, and have raised 50 people in a major war, according to a report on Monday.
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules was carrying 96 troops, especially on the road when they arrived on Sunday at Jolo Airport in Sulu district, the military said. It exploded in a coconut grove across the airport and set fire to a midday accident caused by the military and villagers.
Troops, police, and firefighters have rescued 49 military personnel, including a minor who jumped out of a plane before it exploded and caught fire. All travelers have now been counted. Seven people on the ground were hit by aircraft parts and debris, and three of them died, the military said.
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules was one of two U.S. Air Force reconstruction aircraft donated to the Philippines, the oldest ally in Washington, Asia, as part of a military support operation this year.
Those who boarded the C-130 at Cagayan de Oro on their flight to Sulu were military personnel, many of whom had recently been trained, to be sent to fight against Abu Sayyaf fighters in the south.
The cause of the accident is unknown and investigators are searching for black C-130 boxes containing voice recorders and aircraft.
Prior to Sunday, the deadliest plane crash in the Philippines was an accident in a rice field north of Manila in 1971 that killed 40 soldiers, military historian Jose Custodio said.
