Court refuses to summon Keiko Fujimori back to prison for connection | Hypocrisy

Opponents want Fujimori to serve 30 years in prison for allegedly embezzling money from previous elections.

A judge in Peru has rejected a prosecutor’s request to reinstate President Keiko Fujimori in prison on suspicion of failing to pay his bills on charges of embezzlement and bribery.

Fujimori, the eldest daughter of former prison president Alberto Fujimori, is accused of receiving $ 1.2m from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht to fund former president’s campaigns in 2011 and 2016.

Attorney José Domingo Pérez told Judge Víctor Zúñiga on Monday that Fujimori had violated the ban on repatriation by contacting witnesses in court.

However, the judge found that the request was “unfounded” as he was not given a warning, adding Fujimori bail.

For his part, Fujimori said the petition was “oppressive, unlimited and unjust,” as many of his followers pointed out.

Fujimori has already spent 16 months in jail before. He denied the allegations.

Fujimori was released in May last year as a result of a coronavirus outbreak, and was banned from leaving Peru or contacting his opponents or witnesses in the case.

Critics have said he wants to spend 30 years in prison for the 46-year-old daughter of a former President convicted of bribery.
