Corpses found after the Magway military offensive in Myanmar: report | Refugee Stories

Two of the nine victims and victims were members of a coup d’état while the rest were civilians including children.

The bodies of at least nine people have been found in central Myanmar following a suspected plot by the military, according to media reports, adding that most of the victims were civilians, including two children.

Myanmar Now newspaper reported Tuesday that the bodies were found by members of the search and rescue team who arrived outside Hnan Khar village in Gangaw town in Magway province after the bombing.

The report added that only two of the victims were members of the anti-apartheid movement while the rest were rural people.

The news comes as residents of the area and a spokesman for the militant group told the AFP news agency that the military had sent a helicopter to intercept the plane as the military was struggling to resist the seizure.

Myanmar Now, however, it has claimed that at least three helicopters were behind the plane crash.

A local resident told AFP that the military used five helicopters in the attack and that the military had shot at about 6,000 people from the sky.

Soldiers often summon helicopters and air strikes when falling soldiers suffer, experts say.

In May, Kachin, an independent militant group located in the far north of the country, reportedly shot down a helicopter during a deadly battle near the town of Momauk.

Earlier this month, the United States and the United Nations criticized the military for Washington’s “credible and shocking” reports of the killing of 11 people, including children.

The news came as local media and civilians reported that the military had arrested 11 people from the village of Dontaw in Sagaing province following my actions and bombing a militia group yesterday.

The war forced more than 3,900 Myanmar refugees to cross the border with Thailand, according to the UN refugee agency UNHCR.

UNHCR requested Thailand on Monday to allow “immediate access” to refugees.

Thousands of refugees are also believed to be on the Myanmar border, and the KNU warned in a statement Tuesday that the military could fight civilians again.

KNU is urging the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting and identify “landfills” to protect civilians.
