Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Amsterdam to protest the government’s ban on COVID-19 and the vaccination campaign as the virus spreads.
Authorities were allowed to stop and search several areas of the city and riot police patrolled the area where the protesters marched with placards and yellow umbrellas.
Regular protests against COVID methods are taking place across the country and a large rally on Sunday was joined by farmers who went to the capital and stopped tractors in the middle of Museum Square.
Crowds lined the streets, chanted anti-government slogans, and marched through the streets, blocking traffic.
Step Vassen of Al Jazeera said that although the excitement at the event was “very hot”, the demonstrations were peaceful.
“There are a lot of people who are against the government’s actions and distrust of politics,” he said.
“A lot of people are now disobeying the rules and violating many of the existing laws.”
During the march, the police separated a small group of anti-Nazi activists and took them to another location by bus.
Dutch right-wing groups often take part in protests against the COVID-19 ban, and the police want to ensure that there is no anti-fascist activity.
The Netherlands had one of the most difficult closing events in Europe for a month until the end of the year holiday.

The outbreak reached 36,000 on Sunday, according to a report published by the Netherlands Institute for Health (RIVM). The Netherlands has registered more than 3.5 million people sick and 21,000 dead since the outbreak began.
The Rutte government ordered the closure in December when the Delta wave forced health officials to ban all but immediate care and it appears the Omicron case could be hampered.
Unnecessary grocery stores, hairdressers, hairdressers and other assistants were allowed to reopen Saturday under difficult conditions.
Bars, restaurants and cultural venues were advised to remain closed until January 25th due to doubts about how Omicron waves could affect the number of hospitals.
