Chinese city closures risk exposure to chip, Micron says | Corona virus epidemic

Chip leader warns that Xian’s strict sanctions are becoming increasingly difficult to operate.

Micron Technology Inc said Wednesday the closure of COVID-19 in China’s Xian city could lead to a slowdown in the development of its DRAM memory chips, which are widely used in data centers.

Micron, one of the world’s largest memory vendors, said the ban, which went into effect earlier this month, could be more difficult to reduce and has reduced the number of people in the industry.

Chinese officials forcing bans on travel in and out of Xian from December 23rd, in line with Beijing’s push to keep the epidemics in perspective.

“We are working our global mission, including our partners, to assist our clients in these DRAM activities,” Micron said in a blog post.

“We think this will allow us to meet customer requirements, however, there may be a temporary delay when we open our networks,” the company said.

Micron added that it is working to reduce the risk of infection and has used methods, including distance distances and site testing, and is promoting vaccination.
