Biden has invited Taiwan to the upcoming ‘Summit for Democracy’ Stories by Joe Biden

The US call for democracy in Taiwan should anger China, which sees the island as a rebel region.

All other participants in the US government department list so far are countries whose jurisdiction is approved by Washington. U.S. opponents Russia and China were excluded, as well as Turkey, whom President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously called “autocrat” and Biden.

Some countries Washington hopes to represent democratic progress but have seen a setback in the midst of military insurgency or conflict – and have not been invited – including Sudan, Myanmar, Ethiopia and Afghanistan.
