Biden appoints Thomas Nides as US ambassador to Israel | Conflicts between Israel and Palestine Issues

The U.S. president has appointed Wall Street banker and State Department official Thomas Nides some months later.

U.S. President Joe Biden has appointed Wall Street banker and State Secretary Thomas R Nides as Israel’s next ambassador to the White House, White House spokesman said. words Tuesday.

Nides is vice-chairman of Morgan Stanley, the fourth largest bank in the US, and was the Deputy Secretary of State from 2011 to 2013 during his tenure under former President Barack Obama.

Biden has taken months to name a few of his nominees to take part in the crisis, asking questions from some observers about his possible decision on the US President’s views on Israel and Palestine.

Tuesday’s announcement came at a time when Biden’s supervisors are seeking a resume and the new Israeli government of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett after a few years of protests in the US by Benjamin Netanyahu, whose 12-year term as Prime Minister ended the weekend.

It also follows 11 days of Israeli bombings on the Gaza Strip last month killed Palestine 256 and wounded hundreds. Twelve people have also been killed in Israel over rockets fired from Palestine.

Known as a pro-Israel Democrat, Nides has worked secretly to fund U.S. humanitarian projects and was awarded the prestigious Service Award by former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Nides has also been a major supporter of Democrats, raising more than $ 45,000 to Democratic candidates over the years, including Biden.

J Street, a liberal group, affiliated with Israel based in the US, has received nominations for Nides on Tuesday.

“The events of the last few weeks have clearly shown that our country needs a skilled ambassador to take on a very difficult and challenging role, and we believe that Nides has the necessary knowledge,” the group said in a statement.

Nides will replace former US President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, a bankruptcy lawyer and a staunch supporter of Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories.

In addition to the Nides, the White House says Biden wants to nominate eight more ambassadors, including former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and “Sully” Sullenberger, a well-known pilot who lifted his passenger plane on the Hudson River in 2009.

Salazar has been appointed ambassador to Mexico and Sullenberger has been appointed US ambassador to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Julianne Smith, Secretary-General of the Secretary of State Antony Blinken, has also been appointed US ambassador to NATO, The White House said.
