The interior ministry has confiscated weapons and explosives, arresting civilians for plotting to assassinate terrorists.

Bahraini security forces have arrested a number of suspects, and seized weapons and explosives before, the interior ministry said.

The ministry did not say how many people were arrested or who had been deported.

“Terrorists (arrested) for plotting to overthrow terrorists,” the interior ministry wrote on Twitter on Monday.

He described them as “allied with terrorist groups in Iran”.

Bahrain, which includes the Fifth United States Navy and other international naval forces, has repeatedly accused Shia Muslims of Iran of plotting to overthrow the Sunni-dominated empire, which has a large Shia population. Iran has denied this.

The island was the only Gulf Arab country to witness a major democratic uprising in the 2011 Arab Spring, from a Shia opposition group, which was overthrown with the support of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Opposition groups were banned and hundreds of protesters were arrested – many were stripped of their land.

Human rights groups often point out that Bahraini’s rights activists – both men and women, religious and foreign – are failing to meet the requirements of justice.

Bahraini government officials have repeatedly denied the allegations.

Last year, Bahrain claimed to have defeated “terrorists” with the help of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
