Australia ‘pushing’ Omicron, as all cases hit 1 million | Coronavirus Plague News

The country filed more than 500,000 lawsuits last week as it learns to contain COVID-19.

Australia must “push” the fast-growing Omicron epidemic, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Monday, when the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country had exceeded more than one million, more than half of which were recorded last week.

What also changed in Australia, which suppressed previous waves of the epidemic through closed blood vessels and improved boundaries and isolation.

After vaccination almost all Australian adults are now trying to become infected, but the rapid rise in crime has made medical and health care more difficult.

“Omicron is changing gears and we have to get through it,” Morrison told reporters at Canberra headquarters. “You have two options here: you can push or close. We want to continue.”

The country confirmed more than 67,000 cases on Monday, compared to less than 100,000 on Sunday. Officials say Monday’s number could be “low” because some countries do not include those who tested positive for antigen at home tests.

Australia has now reported 1.04 million people since the outbreak began two years ago. 2,387 people have lost their lives to the disease.

Morrison stressed that the health system is enduring. More than 3,500 people are in the hospital here, compared to 2,000 last week.

About 92 percent of people over the age of 16 have received two doses of vaccine, and children between the ages of 5 – 11 began receiving their first dose of Pfizer BioNTech on Monday.
